Hybrid Microstepping Drivers
IMS has replaced the IM483H and IM805H microstepping hybrid drivers with the higher performing IM483H PLUS (p/n XIM483H) and IM805H PLUS (p/n XIM805H).
Those using the discontinued IM483H and IM805H may experience some issues when substituting PLUS units in existing designs. Below are known issues and suggestions for addressing them.
1. Issue: Fault output turns on for 300 milliseconds when power is applied.
- Background: An internal reset timer in the PLUS unit cycles for 150 to 300 milliseconds. This allows the fault output to turn on for the same amount of time. As soon as the reset timer times out, the fault output turns off.
- The Legacy versions fault output remained off during this time.
- Solution: Don't check for faults during the first 500 ms (longer than the reset timer's time) after power is applied or if the drive is reset.
2. Issue: Fault output turns on when the drive is reset.
- Background: This is similar to the 300-millisecond issue above, however as long as the PLUS unit is in the reset mode the fault output will be on.
- The Legacy versions fault output remained off during reset.
- Solution: Don't check for faults when resetting the drive.
