Microstepping (MDM)
Integrated motor and driver

MDrivePlus Microstepping versions feature step and direction control taking place digitally over optically isolated inputs:

  • Step Clock
  • Direction
  • Enable

Each step clock input pulse is converted to a motor microstep. Parameter setup is made with an IMS-supplied SPI interface program running on a Windows-based PC for:

  • Microstep resolution (up to 256 per full step or 51,200 per motor revolution)
  • Run current and hold current (in percent)
  • Direction of rotation (CW or CCW)
  • Digital filter for electrical transient suppression
Motion Control (MDI)
Integrated motor, driver and programmable motion controller

MDrivePlus Motion Control versions feature a fully programmable microprocessor and motion controller in addition to the microstepping driver and step motor. Communications interface is via RS-422/485 or optional CANopen.

For external sensors, switches, encoders, etc., there are the following inputs / outputs (I/Os):

Plus - standard features:
  • 4 digital inputs / outputs
  • 1 analog input
Plus2 - expanded features:
  • 8 digital inputs / outputs
  • 2 digital high-speed inputs / outputs
  • 1 digital high-speed capture input or trip output
  • 1 analog input
Plus2 - expanded features and encoder:
  • 4 digital inputs / outputs
  • 3 digital high-speed differential inputs for internal encoder
  • 1 digital high-speed capture input or trip output
  • 1 analog input
Speed Control (MDO)
Integrated motor, driver and speed controller

MDrivePlus Speed Control versions feature a programmable step clock generator with the following inputs:

  • Analog Speed (voltage or current)
  • Direction
  • Start/Stop

Parameter setup is made with an IMS-supplied SPI interface program running on a Windows-based PC for:

  • Microstep resolution (up to 256 per full step or 51,200 per motor revolution)
  • Step frequency for maximum analog value
  • Filter for analog value
  • Run current and hold current (in percent)
  • Direction of rotation (CW or CCW)
  • Velocity control with acceleration and deceleration ramp
